Fred O. Pitts

Lead Pastor

Fred O. Pitts became the Pastor of Ancient City Baptist Church in July 2017. Although life in the 21st century is complex, he believes the purpose of life can be summed up more simply in the answers Jesus gave when asked the greatest of the commandments: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” Pastor Fred says, “The primary call in my life is seeking first the kingdom of God through pastoring and teaching. My passion is teaching God’s word in a manner that is both understandable and relevant. Primary emphases in my ministry are compassion and encouragement.”

Pastor Fred is a native of Georgia and a graduate of Georgia Tech (Go Jackets!!) and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has previously started a church in north Atlanta, pastored a church in central Georgia, worked as a consultant for starting new churches throughout Georgia, and most recently completed a pastorate of thirteen years in Decatur, GA.

Pastor Fred and his wife Cindy have five grown children—four girls and a boy—and are currently acting as legal guardians for a delightful girl born in 2013. They enjoy a wide range of activities and interests.

Cindy Lewis

Director of Mercy Ministries

The Old Testament prophet, Micah, asked the question, "What does the Lord require of you?" He answered his own question with these words; "To act justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." Loving mercy is the result of loving God and the raison d‘etre for our church’s ministry in helping in three local schools, participating in the Relay for Life, the Care Fest, and Feed My Lambs, a ministry of providing food for homeless families with children each summer.

Now coordinating our Ministry of Mercy is Cindy Lewis. Cindy is a member of AncientCity Baptist and is faithful in her attendance at worship, Adult Bible Fellowship and Wednesday night Bible Study and Prayer. She has been active in Good News Clubs and VBS. Cindy is an alumnus of Florida State University and also holds a Master’s degree in education from Pensacola Christian College. She has experience in mission work in Canada where she worked for a number of years among North American Indians. She also spent 21 years in Christian School teaching in the US, including 5 years in Hawaii.

Cindy is excited about being given this challenge and said, "The members of this church have a heart for God with a willingness to be used of Him. In the short time I‘ve been here, I have seen God do some amazing things. I am eager to see what great things God is going to do in the future through our church family. I’m blessed to be a part of this ministry and look forward to serving with them!"
