Advent at Ancient City Baptist Church
Each Sunday during Advent (the four Sundays preceding Christmas), we light a candle to highlight a theme of the Christmas season during our 11 a.m worship. Advent is a word that means “coming,” and on each of the four Sundays of Advent, we are seeking to prepare our hearts to experience anew the wonder and awe of the what God has done has done for us in sending a Savior. Here are our Advent themes for this year:
December 3, the First Sunday of Advent: The Candle of Hope
December 10, the Second Sunday of Advent: The Candle of Peace
December 17, the Third Sunday of Advent: The Candle of the Joy
December 24, the Fourth Sunday of Advent: The Candle of Love
Sunday, December 24, Christmas Eve: The Candle of the Christ Child at our 6 p.m Candlelight and Communion Service (see below)
Our Christmas Cantata will be presented Sunday, December 3, at 7:30 p.m.
During our services on the four Sundays of Advent, our pastor will be delivering a series of messages that will help us understand more fully not only the story of Christmas but the meaning of Christmas. The title of this year’s Advent series is “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.” The messages are as follows:
Week One: The Home of Your Dreams
Week Two: Running Away from Home
Week Three: Father Knows Best
Week Four: Home for the Holidays
Christmas Eve Candlelight Service Meditation: Signs Are for Seekers
If you miss any of these services, you can listen to the messages online. From the MAIN MENU, click the item SERMONS.
Christmas Eve Worship Services
Since Christmas Eve falls on a Sunday this year, we will have two opportunities for worship: our regular Sunday morning worship at 11:00 a.m. and our annual Christmas Eve Candlelight and Communion Worship at 6 p.m. The Candlelight and Communion worship will last about an hour and will feature music, candle lighting, and a short meditation presented by our pastor that will enhance your celebration of the birth of Jesus.
