Barabbas! When we think of favorite Bible characters, names like Moses, David, and Ruth in the Old Testament and Peter, Paul, and Mary in the New Testament come to mind. No one thinks of Barabbas in these terms. The Gospel of Matthew calls him a “notorious prisoner.” Mark’s Gospel paints him as an insurrectionist. John’s Gospel tells us he was a robber, and Luke says that he was guilty of murder. Is there anything we can learn about Barabbas that can speak to us today?
