Pursuing Life in Christ with Passion and Purpose

Worship Ministry

ACBC Worship08  ACBC Choir 1

The primary public weekly worship at Ancient City Church starts at 11 a.m. on Sundays and normally lasts an hour or a little bit more. We offer an intergenerational service that offers a variety of worship elements and a variety of music styles from week to week. We normally select worship elements and music based on the theme of the passage of Scripture that will be taught during the service. Elements of worship can include singing, prayer, Scripture reading, testimonies, drama, a message from God's word, communion, and others. Not every element is included in any one service.

  • We believe that worship is a verb, not a noun

In other words, it is something you do, not something you attend. In worship, we tell God how much He is worth, and we renew our dedication to Him. Invariably, He leaves us a blessing through His Spirit and His Word. We believe that worship, over time, should be balanced and therefore will not always be the same from week to week.

  • There is the balance of old and new

The Bible says, "Remember the days of old; consider the generations long past." It also says more than once, "Sing to the Lord a new song!" We should always keep a connection with the history of believers, yet each generation must worship God in its own voice as well.

  • There is the balance of spirit and truth

Jesus said that true worshiper "must worship in spirit and truth." To worship in spirit means there must be some life in it. Truth means it should be in harmony with the revealed word from God. Some churches have a lot of spirit without regard to truth; others seem to have a lifeless orthodoxy (that is, doctrinal integrity). True worship has both life and orthodoxy.

  • There is the balance of celebration and meditation

Some churches are known for one or the other. While sometimes both can be part of the same service, more often than not one service will lean toward one or the other, and it is over time that this balance is achieved. Psalm 46 says to us, "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." The very next Psalm shows the balance. Psalm 47 begins, "Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy. How awesome is the LORD Most High, the great King over all the earth!"

When you worship... don’t expect every worship encounter with God to be the same . . . don’t expect God to speak to you the same way each week... just expect... God!
